What We Do

Catalysing a Private Sector-driven Impact Economy in Zambia

our mission

To mobilise stakeholders and resources to support the creation of a private sector driven impact economy through identification of domestic opportunities for change and innovation that help achieve and maintain the Sustainable Development Goals.

Balancing the Opportunities of Today With The Needs Of Tomorrow.

Our Mandate

As a proud member of the Global Steering Group for Impact Investment (GSG Impact), NABII works to promote and facilitate investment and entrepreneurship with positive societal and environmental impacts across a range of sectors.

By building a global network for impact investing, NABII aims to strengthen Zambia’s position in the international impact investment ecosystem. NABII’s membership in the GSG Impact Partnership gives it knowledge sharing opportunities, access to financial resources and technical expertise to identify gaps within the local impact investment ecosystem, as well as an opportunity to collaborate with local and international partners to innovate and find solutions to the identified gaps for the purpose of market development.

Our efforts and activities are organised in four areas:

Market Development

We promote the flow of local and foreign impact investment with priority initiatives for scaling Zambian impact investment market.

Knowledge Development

We provide unique insights on the Zambian impact investment market by gathering and analysing data.

Policy Development

We collaborate with regulators and policymakers on interventions to strengthen the enabling and regulatory environment.

Comms Development

We raise impact investment awareness among existing and potential ecosystem players, through various communication activities.

Our Projects

Promoting local and foreign impact investment flow, focusing on scaling Zambia’s impact investment market.

Communication and Knowledge Development Partnerships

NABII places strong emphasis on research and data-driven insights. Through partnerships with Entrepreneurship Support Organizations (ESOs), NABII has conducted extensive market mapping and surveys, aimed at bridging data gaps and fostering a deeper understanding of Zambia’s local impact investment ecosystem. These reports are available on the NABII website here.

The Zambia Impact Investment Summit (ZIIS), NABII’s flagship platform, has unlocked over USD 40 million in investment through curated business pitching sessions. With each annual summit, ZIIS delivers stronger outcomes, providing an influential platform for stakeholders to engage, network, and drive market development initiatives for an impact-driven economy.

The Small Business Growth Initiative (SBGI) is a ZMW 5 billion fund designed to address the longstanding challenge of limited access to affordable financing for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Zambia. This initiative, spearheaded by the Bank of Zambia (BoZ) in collaboration with the Zambia National Advisory Board for Impact Investments (NABII) and other partners, is rooted in the belief that MSMEs are vital drivers of economic growth, job creation, and innovation.
In partnership with GSG Impact and the Pensions and Insurance Authority (PIA), with grant funding support from the World Economic Forum, NABII conducted a mapping of the local pensions and insurance industry. This effort has resulted in an ongoing workstream aimed at unlocking local institutional capital flows to small and growing businesses.
NABII Technical Working Groups
To enhance collaboration and partnerships within the impact investment ecosystem, NABII has established Technical Working Groups (TWGs) aligned with the five pillars of the Zambia Impact Investment Ecosystem: Supply of Impact Capital, Intermediation of Impact Capital, Demand for Impact Capital, Policy and Regulation, and Market Enablers. These TWGs, composed of technical experts from both the public and private sectors, serve as voluntary committees driving the market development agenda for impact investing in Zambia. Their focus includes mobilizing new and additional impact investment capital, building the capacity of intermediaries and market enablers, increasing the number of investment-ready enterprises, and advocating for pro-impact investment policies. Members of the TWGs benefit from knowledge sharing, joint policy and regulatory advocacy, fundraising opportunities, access to diverse impact investment platforms and networks, and affiliation with the global impact investment movement. Join the movement and contribute to the market development agenda regarding unlocking impact capital flows today.
